Copilot Shopping: Bing feed on one side, Copilot Checkout US on the other

Copilot Shopping: Bing feed on one side, Copilot Checkout US on the other

August 19, 2026

The "Copilot Shopping" sheet describes an assistant in Copilot and Bing: compare, rely on the Bing Shopping index, click through to a retailer checkout funnel. It labels Amazon, Walmart, Target, United States, United Kingdom, European Union, and automated checkout. It also says: discovery channel, not software licensed to the merchant. No gross merchandise volume, no accuracy rate. Neither does this article. In 2026, Microsoft adds a second business: Copilot Checkout, purchase within Copilot, without redirection, the merchant remaining the merchant of record, United States, English, USD. Two funnels. One logo. Pasting them together is budgeting for a purchase in the chat that you don't have, or an MMC feed that you already have.

Microsoft Advertising announced Copilot Checkout on January 8, 2026: rollout in the US on Copilot.com, partners PayPal, Shopify, and Stripe. Shopify merchants are enrolled automatically after an opt-out window, managed within the Shopify interface. Others apply. Microsoft Merchant Center is not required to sell in Checkout, but MMC feeds "inform organic Copilot results." Microsoft Advertising's Agentic Commerce page: visibility via a UCP-ready feed in MMC; Checkout in Copilot; current eligibility limited to English-speaking merchants selling to US buyers in USD. Copilot is not the merchant of record. Microsoft also publishes percentages there (internal, Adobe, in-house research). We cite them as publisher marketing, not as an audit.

If the idea of a software buyer is new: what agentic commerce is. The 2026 calendar: what has been delivered. The other sheets: AI shopping agents. Official totals remain human shopping journeys: e-commerce statistics 2026.

Summary

Two professions under one Copilot logo

Two features under "Copilot Shopping". They are not configured in the same place.

Feature

What the directory describes

Discovery

Copilot Checkout

Purchase in Copilot, no redirection, merchant of record (you), US / English / USD

"Go to checkout" step and automated checkout label

Brand Agents

Assistant on your Shopify site, brand voice, Clarity

Not on the listing. Other product.

Brand Agents is not Copilot Shopping. It is an agent on the store, not a Microsoft interface where the buyer opened Copilot. A pitch claiming "we'll put you in Copilot" can sell all three. Ask which one.

The directory is right in saying that this is not software you buy. It is wrong if you read "automated checkout" as "everyone is already checking out in the chat". Checkout has a geography, a language, integration paths, and a launch list (Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Ashley Furniture, Etsy sellers) that is not Amazon / Walmart / Target.

A merchant who "chooses Copilot" like a payment provider has read the pricing grid, not the product. You don't install Copilot. You maintain a feed, you apply or let Shopify enroll you, you decide on the button. That is the whole channel.

The initial signals of the ticket ("53%", "194%") arrive even before explaining USD eligibility. This is the order of a launch, not the order of specifications. Reverse it: eligibility first, percentages never.

Neither only UCP, nor only ACP

Microsoft uses both rail names. The product page: MMC "UCP-ready" feeds, attributes (native payment eligibility, warnings, Merchant Item ID), return policies and support. The January blog post: Checkout integration via "open standards such as" ACP. It is not "Copilot = UCP" nor "Copilot = ACP". It is Microsoft plugging in existing blocks. The specifications are compared here: how the protocols differ.

Gemini has UCP on the Google side (Google Merchant Center, AI Mode). ChatGPT has ACP on the Stripe / OpenAI side. Copilot has MMC plus Checkout plus, for Shopify, a channel in the interface. Three integrations. One word "agent" in a presentation.

This is not Claude in Chrome: no extension clicking your theme with the buyer's cookie. Here, the index and, optionally, a Checkout session. Robots policy and 3-D Secure on your product page matter mostly for the click to the site, not for the purchase in the chat: what platforms need to change.

Vocabulary (merchant of record, feeds, session): glossary of agentic commerce.

Amazon, Walmart, UK: labels, not eligibility

The directory sticks Amazon, Walmart, Target. Microsoft, at the launch of Checkout, names other brands. The labels are examples of buyer comparison in Bing, not the Checkout integration list. A Seller Central listing is not a Copilot access point.

United States, United Kingdom, European Union regions on the listing. Checkout, says the product page, is currently limited: English, US buyers, USD. Do not merge "Copilot exists in Europe" and "Copilot Checkout collects in EUR". One is the assistant. The other is an eligibility.

The user guide (open Copilot, describe, compare, deals, go to merchant checkout, pre-fill, confirm) is the discovery plus click funnel. Copilot Checkout, as Microsoft sells it, is the displayed opposite: no redirection. Two journey ends. Label them in the ordering system, otherwise "Copilot order" will mean everything and nothing.

The price / payment filters of the directory are usages, not specifications: agents for payment.

"Go to checkout" in the user guide is the reference model: Copilot as discovery, the merchant as checkout funnel. This is the same division that Shopify describes elsewhere for ChatGPT. Copilot Checkout breaks this division for eligible US merchants. A European Union merchant who copies the Checkout guide word for word copies a product that, today, does not target them. They are left with the feed and the click.

Copilot Checkout: US, English, USD, merchant of record

Copilot Checkout, January 8, 2026: conversation through to purchase on Copilot.com in the United States. Microsoft reiterates: you remain the merchant of record for the operation, you keep the transaction, customer data, and relationship. The product page adds: existing payments, fraud, tax, logistics, reconciliation. This is not a legal opinion. It is the publisher's pitch. Ask your payment provider how an SPT or a PayPal JWT coexists with a chargeback.

Shopify: automatic opt-in after opt-out option, control within the interface. No application required. The work involves the button and Catalog quality, plus a storefront that holds up if a buyer lands back on the site: a Shopify storefront readable by an LLM. Shop is something else entirely: Shopify's consumer app, not Copilot.

Outside Shopify: apply, PayPal or Stripe paths (ticket) or MMC account plus UCP-compliant feed (product page). Already being a PayPal or Stripe customer is not, in the listed FAQ, an automatic integration we can cite here. The form exists. The contract does not, as long as you do not have eligibility.

Announced expansion to Bing, MSN, Edge: "you are automatically there" once Checkout is turned on. It is a surface-level promise, not a volume. Mastercard Agent Pay and Visa Intelligent Commerce are mentioned as upcoming work, not as a rail you configure this week.

After the purchase, the reason codes and the two-door customer service (Copilot chat or merchant email) are not on these two pages. The catalog of breakdowns: where agentic commerce still breaks.

Your site's tracking pixel will not see a Checkout session in the chat. You will have an order, an HTTP notification, or a Shopify Agentic line, not a classic funnel. If you judge the channel by the last click on the site, Copilot Checkout disappears. Decide on attribution before the button, not after the first internal dispute.

Microsoft Merchant Center is not a magic button

Organic visibility, according to Microsoft, relies on the MMC feed. Not mandatory for Checkout, but useful for Copilot results. Mentioned attributes: return policy, support, native payment eligibility, warnings, unique merchant identifier. The same work as everywhere else: price, stock, variants, freshness: what a machine needs to compare.

Two diverging CSVs (Google Merchant Center, MMC, Shopify Catalog) mean two prices. Copilot will take the Microsoft feed. A Google agent will take the other. A human will see the third on your product page. One truth, multiple syndicators.

"UCP-ready" does not mean "we have implemented the UCP site." It means: Microsoft wants fields that the UCP likes (returns, support, eligibility). Filling in MMC is not signing a Google specification. Do not pay for a "UCP Copilot" project that is merely a column mapping.

Pilot phase only, says a note on the page, for certain store settings. Treat the MMC screen as a moving product, not as a frozen specification.

A Copilot buyer comparing three dresses has not opened your merchandising. They have opened an index. If your GTIN, your return policy, or your payment eligibility are empty, you drop out of the shortlist without an error message. This is feed silence, not an SEO attack. Correcting the empty field pays off for Gemini, ChatGPT, and Copilot all at once, as long as all three read comparable attributes.

Microsoft percentages remain Microsoft percentages

Microsoft publishes figures. We leave them in their mouth.

  • 53% and 194%: January post. Note: Microsoft Internal Data, August 2025. Journeys with and without Copilot, purchases within 30 minutes, "purchase intent". Definitions not audited here. Not your rate.

  • 84%, 72%, 800%: product page. Adobe Digital Insights, Microsoft research, Reuters (Black Friday). Three marketing quotes. We are not making a Copilot Checkout market out of them.

  • 3x conversion Brand Agents: a pajama merchant, assisted and unassisted sessions. Brand Agents, not Checkout. One case. Not a category benchmark.

"Simulated screens", the post repeats. Screenshots are not proof that your SKU is being displayed. The first "promising" signals are a launch phrase.

Do not budget a Copilot channel at a cost per acquisition based on 194%. Wait for an attributed order in your order management system.

Human confirmation on your product sheet

A single pitch "to be in Microsoft AI" can sell MMC, Checkout, Brand Agents, or a directory listing. Four deliverables. The directory is the fourth.

What the two Microsoft pages do not measure

Neither of the two Microsoft texts gives your volume, a Copilot 3-D Secure rate, a Checkout returns rate, nor a UK / EU date for collection. We do not invent these numbers.

  • Amazon / Walmart / Target: directory labels. Not the Checkout launch list.

  • UK / EU: listing labels. Checkout: US, English, USD, for now.

  • MCA mandatory?: no to sell on Checkout, says the post. Yes for one of the MCA feed eligibility paths, says the page. Read both sentences.

  • Microsoft Commission: the FAQ exists on the page. We do not have a rate in the cited extract. Ask for the contract, not the directory.

A Verified listing on this site does not enroll Copilot Checkout. The editorial and Microsoft / Shopify interface remain separate.

PayPal Store Sync and Stripe Agentic Commerce Suite appear on the product page as paths. These are not specifications that we cite in the URL. An integrator selling "the Stripe Copilot connector" may sell this suite, an SPT, or a simple Microsoft form. Ask for the deliverable, then the payment provider contract, then MCA. In that order. Three contracts. One logo. The directory will not arbitrate for you. It's up to you to do it now.

Three gestures, not a slide show

This week, three actions. Not a slide for a lounge.

  • Name the business line: MMC feed (discovery), Checkout (US collection), or Brand Agents (your site)? One owner per business line.

  • Shopify: open Sales Channels / Agentic. Opt-out option or not. Catalog Quality. Don't wait for Google UCP for a Copilot button.

  • Outside Shopify: MMC: returns, support, identifiers. Then apply for PayPal, Stripe, or the Checkout form. Postpone exclusive reconstruction.

The unique test: would this work still be useful if Microsoft delayed Checkout outside the US? A clean feed, yes. A hack "for the Copilot.com window", no.

If you only have one hour: open MMC, note down if the feed is up to date, then the Shopify Agentic interface if you are on it. Two answers are worth more than Target labels.

Name what you will not do: no "Copilot" media budget locked at 194%, no UCP project that is just an MMC column matching, no Brand Agents / Checkout merger. The directory does not need your non-list. Your committee does.

You are not installing Copilot

You do not install Copilot at the buyer's end. You make the catalog readable for MMC, you decide on a US Checkout or not, you handle the customer service. The agents then come, according to Microsoft eligibility, not according to the directory.

If a seller promises "to be in Copilot just like in ChatGPT", ask: MMC feed, ACP Stripe integration, Shopify button, Brand Agents, or directory listing. Five deliverables. One word.

The owner is not "Copilot growth". It is merchandising plus operations for the feed, payments for Checkout, content for Brand Agents. A single owner stops at the first USD eligibility refusal.

A successful Copilot Checkout and a Bing click that fails at 3-D Secure are not "the same, inferior Copilot". They are two contracts. Fixing the web application firewall because the directory put "automated payment" on the listing is the trap of this page. The purchase in the chat does not need your firewall. The merchant click does.

Frequently Asked Questions

Copilot Shopping, is it UCP or ACP?

Both terms appear at Microsoft: UCP for the MMC feed, ACP for the Checkout integration. It is not Gemini. It is not ChatGPT. Read MMC and the form, not the analogy.

Does Copilot handle checkout in the chat?

Copilot Checkout, as announced in January 2026, yes, in the United States, for eligible merchants, without redirection. The directory still describes a click through to the retailer. Two different outcomes. Verify yours.

Do you need to be on Shopify?

No. Shopify is the automatic path after opt-out. PayPal, Stripe, and MMC exist for others. Automatic is not "already live on your SKU".

Are the Amazon and Walmart labels Checkout partners?

Not in the two cited texts. They are directory comparison labels. The Microsoft launch list is a different list.

Is the 194% an indicator?

It is Microsoft internal data, August 2025, in a launch blog post. Not your conversion rate. Not an audit.

What should you do this week?

Separate discovery and Checkout. Update MMC. Decide on the Shopify opt-out option or an application. Do not budget UK / EU checkout. Postpone Brand Agents if the business focus is Copilot chat.

Is Brand Agents Copilot Shopping?

No. Brand Agents lives on your Shopify site, with Clarity. Copilot Shopping is the Microsoft surface where the customer opened the assistant. A "3x" rate on assisted in-store sessions is not a Checkout rate.
