"Best AI Purchasing Agents" is a directory title, not a measured ranking. Around twenty products (LLMs, marketplaces, extensions, buy-now-pay-later, coupons) and filters by task—this is not gross revenue, nor an order accuracy rate, nor market share. This article isn't either. It explains how to read the list: who recommends, who assists with payment, who claims to buy completely on their own, who never leaves a walled garden. Choosing an agent the same way you choose a payment provider is already asking the wrong question.
Google launched the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) on January 11, 2026 for a checkout funnel on eligible US listings in AI Mode and the Gemini app, with the retailer remaining the merchant of record. This is the named rail behind Gemini as a Google surface, not proof that all agents in the directory speak UCP. Stripe documents the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) as an open standard created with OpenAI and Meta: agent checkout funnel, cart, delegated payment, delegated authentication, HTTP orders, and notifications. OpenAI is the first agent platform cited. This is the named rail behind ChatGPT, not a rating on Claude, Rufus, or Honey.
If the idea of a software buyer is new: what agentic commerce is. The 2026 timeline: what has been delivered. Official totals still describe human shopping journeys: 2026 e-commerce statistics. The terminology (mandate, merchant of record): agentic commerce glossary.
Summary
Four families under a single word, "agent"
The directory mixes four professions under the same word "agent". A marketplace assistant (Rufus, Sparky) does not leave the operator's catalog. A conversational LLM (ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot) can discover outside of your site, then sometimes cash in on a rail. An extension (Honey, Karma, Phia) hunts for a code or a price. A generalist agent (Operator, Manus, Genspark) pilots a browser. Treating them as a single ranking is like comparing a coupon and a payment order.
Family | Examples in the directory | What this changes for you |
|---|---|---|
LLM Surface | ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity Buy with Pro | Off-site discovery. Payment tunnel if a rail (ACP, UCP) and eligibility exist |
Marketplace / brand | Rufus (Amazon), Sparky (Walmart), Shop (Shopify) | You do not set up the web application firewall or the protocol. You must provide the marketplace feed there |
Browser / extension | Claude, Comet, Operator, Honey, Karma | It looks like a human on your product page. Logs, robots, JavaScript: everything counts |
Payment / identity | Klarna (installment payment), VendeeX (spend governance) | This is not a comparison tool. It is a way to pay or a safeguard |
Directory labels (automatic purchase, suggestions, payment assistance) are not audits. An "automatic purchase" is not a volume of orders. A "10,000 stores" is a marketing pitch as long as it is not a specification. We do not recycle them as facts.
Twenty listings is an editorial collection. It is not a market census, nor proof that your customer is already buying through one of these products. A merchant who "chooses" Genspark over Copilot without looking at the marketplace feed, the web application firewall, and the rail, has read the directory like a theme comparison tool. That is not the point. It is a map of professions. The useful column of the table is the third one: what it changes for you, not the agent's logo.

Empowering 200+ e-commerce merchants
Suggest, assist, checkout: three verbs
Three verbs, three contracts.
Suggests: the agent proposes. The human then buys as usual. You often keep the session. You do not need a delegated token for this to "work". You need to be findable.
Assists with payment: the agent fills in, clicks, or opens a payment funnel. It may fail at 3DS, the web application firewall, or a theme script. This is the most common case for extensions and browser agents.
Automatic purchase: the agent charges with a mandate. UCP (Google surfaces) and ACP (ChatGPT / Stripe) are the two public specifications describing this in 2026. The rest of the directory carrying the label does not, here, have a cited specification.
For a merchant, the test is not "which agent is the best". It is: if tomorrow one of these three verbs hits my catalog, are the price, stock, and variant readable, does the entry point let it through, can I collect a mandate? The rest is comparison theater. Tasks (price, payment) are usage filters, not ratings: agents to compare prices, agents for payment.
Enclosed garden against all trades
An Amazon agent will not go looking for your Magento. Rufus is a conversational experience within Amazon. Sparky is the Walmart assistant (including, according to the directory, as a module in other chats). Shop is the Shopify consumer channel. You do not manage your UPC there. You must maintain a complete, up-to-date, identified listing there. Waiting for the UPC on a platform you do not control is like waiting for the wrong bus.
Agents labeled "all merchants" (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Genspark, Perplexity, Manus) promise to break out of the silo. Promising is not achieving. Without feeds, without markup, without APIs, they have nothing to compare: which is what a machine needs to compare. Without a robot policy, this "all merchants" is just one more scraping bot at the entry point: which is what platforms need to change.
Amazon Buy for Me, in the directory, is distinct from Rufus: an agentic payment in the Shopping app, possibly off-brand. Read it as an Amazon product, not as the UPC. Two agents from the same brand can have two different contracts (in-app advice or delegated purchasing). Do not merge them into a single "Amazon agent" slide.
Two public rails: Gemini / UCP and ChatGPT / ACP
Two surfaces of the directory have a public track named in 2026. This is not "they have won". It is "one can read a specification".
Gemini / AI Mode: Google describes a payment tunnel soon to be available on eligible US listings, Google Pay / Wallet, merchant merchant of the operation, global expansion announced for later. Direct Offers, on the same day, is an advertising pilot in AI Mode. So the Google surface also remains a place for ads. A buying agent and a sponsored results page coexist.
ChatGPT: Stripe positions OpenAI as the first ACP agent platform, Stripe as the first compatible payment provider. The blocks are payment tunnel, catalog and cart, delegate payment, OAuth, HTTP notifications. Each AI platform, says the ACP ecosystem, manages its own integration. Implementing ACP does not automatically register you everywhere.
Claude, Copilot, Perplexity, Operator do not have, in the two sources cited here, the same payment paragraph. Claude appears in the directory as a Chrome agent that helps with payment. Operator as an OpenAI browsing agent. Copilot Shopping as a Microsoft assistant. Perplexity Buy with Pro as an in-chat purchase for subscribers. Read the listings. Do not apply UCP or ACP to them by analogy. The protocols compare here: how the protocols differ.
Shopify, on its Agentic channel, describes a sharing that the directory does not show: ChatGPT as a discovery referrer, purchase often on the merchant's payment tunnel; Copilot and Google surfaces more integrated when settings allow. This is not a third URL here. It is a reminder that "LLM surface" does not equal "same tunnel". Read the agent listing, then your admin interface.
Installment payments, coupons, discovery: the same word, different professions
Klarna, in this list, is primarily a payment method (installment plan). The directory also associates it with search and payment. A split payment is not an LLM. Honey and Karma hunt for codes and prices; they are extensions, not AP2 mandates. Phia compares prices. Daydream promises personalized discovery across a large number of shops: a coverage figure is not proof of delegated purchasing. VendeeX presents itself as spend identity and governance (limits, returns, audit trail): that is another profession, closer to control than product recommendation.
Keeping them in the same directory makes sense for a human buyer ("who helps me buy"). For a merchant, separate them from the very first line: does this affect my catalog, my entry point, my payment funnel, or only the customer's browser with a coupon?
Shop App is the Shopify retention channel, not the UCP. If you are already on Shopify, part of the agent's work is a channel in the administration interface, not a line in the directory to "beat". If you are not, Shop is not your application firewall.
Honey "30,000 sites", Phia "40,000 sites", Daydream "10,000 shops", Macaron "world's first personal agent": these are profile pitch lines, not metrics. We do not treat them as facts. A coupon applied in your payment funnel is not the UCP. A Klarna split payment is not the ACP. Sticking them into an "agentic stack 2026" presentation inflates the pitch and empties the contract.
Browser agents: your product sheet, your firewall
Browser agents (Claude for Chrome, Comet, Operator, a part of ChatGPT in agent mode) see roughly what a human sees, or what a headless browser manages to extract. They trigger anti-bot defenses. They miss JavaScript. They do not have their own map. This is exactly the path described for platforms. A clean feed only helps an Operator if it reads the feed. Often, it reads the page. Hence the window-dressing work, not just the Merchant Center CSV.
In your logs, these clients look like scraper bots. A new User-Agent, a burst on product sheets, no mouse. Deciding who gets through is a policy, not an "agent-friendly" setting sold by the directory. The ChatGPT sheet and the Gemini sheet do not replace this decision.
A browser agent that succeeds on your product sheet and fails at checkout is not "worse" than Gemini via the UCP. It just doesn't have the same contract. The first needs your theme and your 3DS to hold. The second needs your feed and your eligibility to hold. Fixing the wrong contract because the directory put them on the same grid is the trap of this page.
What the directory does not measure
No agent in the list has, in public data that this article can cite, a rate of correct orders, returns, or disputes. After purchase, the card reason code does not say "the agent misread the size". The loss of the measurement session, the walled garden, the fragmentation of protocols: this is where agentic commerce still breaks.
An agent that "buys all by itself" on an outdated feed means an order at the wrong price. An agent that helps with payment in an in-app browser is a theme that breaks. A directory agent is your listing on the marketplace, not your UCP integration. Three breakdowns, three owners.
Do not budget the directory as an acquisition channel with a known cost per acquisition. We do not publish one. A Verified listing on this site does not buy a spot in this ranked list either: editorial and paid remain separate.
An agent listing on this site describes a product. It is not a partnership. It is not a measure of adoption. Treat each line of the directory as a starting point for an internal question, not as proof that "everyone is already buying this way".
What a merchant does with the list
You don't "choose" ChatGPT or Gemini like a theme. You make the catalog readable, you decide on the entry point, you accept or reject delegated payment. The agents then follow, or not, depending on their integration and your eligibility.
Marketplaces (Rufus, Sparky, Shop): correct the feed you are already sending. IDs, stock, variants. Don't wait for UCP.
LLM surfaces with rails (ChatGPT / ACP, Gemini / UCP): same catalog work, plus a channel policy (Shopify Agentic, Merchant Center, ACP integration). The protocol is chosen late.
Browsers and extensions: product page readable without JavaScript, web application firewall that doesn't kill every headless browser, checkout flow that survives an in-app browser.
Coupons / installment payments: this is not agentic in the sense of UCP or ACP. It is existing payment with one more intermediary.
The single test: would this work still be useful if the next agent in the directory won? A GTIN, yes. An exclusive connector to Manus, no.
Name an internal owner per family, not a single "AI agents manager". Merchandising plus operations for the marketplace feed and Merchant Center. Security plus delivery network for the headless browser. Payments for the mandate. If a single person owns all three, the work stops at the first firewall that blocks, and the directory won't be able to do anything about it.
Filters by task are not a protocol
The directory also groups by task (product search, price, deals, payment). These are human behaviors, not protocols. A "price" agent without a typed currency will silently eliminate your SKU. A "payment" agent without a mandate will stop at 3DS. Use filters to browse listings, not to finalize a budget.
Twenty listings is not the whole market. It is what this site reviewed as of the date of this page. Agents will appear and disappear. The three platform changes, however, will not.
When a seller offers "to be in ChatGPT" as a service, ask if they are selling an ACP integration, a Merchant Center feed, a more readable theme, or a listing in a directory. Four deliverables. Only one word in the pitch. The directory you are reading here is the fourth one, not the first three.
Three cards, not twenty
Open three sheets, not twenty. An LLM surface with a public rail (ChatGPT or Gemini). A marketplace where you already sell (Rufus if Amazon, Sparky if Walmart, Shop if Shopify). A navigator agent (Claude or Operator) to see what your product sheet looks like to a headless browser. Ask each time: recommend, assist, or cash in? Walled garden or not? Which artifact do I control (marketplace feed, Merchant Center feed, theme, application firewall)?
Only then, the protocol question. Not before. An agent directory is not a restricted list of integrations.
If you only have one hour: open Rufus or Sparky if you sell there, check five SKUs (price, stock, variant). Open your application firewall and ask what a headless Chrome receives on a product sheet. Open Merchant Center or the Shopify Agentic interface and note what is already turned on. These three actions are worth more than reading all twenty sheets.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best AI buying agent in 2026?
This page does not say. No public data on volume, accuracy, or disputes says so either. The directory classifies products by family and by task. A ranking would be an invention.
Are ChatGPT and Gemini the same thing?
No. Stripe documents ACP, with OpenAI as the primary agent platform. Google documents UCP for AI Mode and Gemini, the merchant banner of the operation. Two rails. Two integrations. Copilot, Claude, and Perplexity are not covered by these two texts in the same way.
Does Rufus count as agentic commerce?
As a shopping assistant within Amazon, yes in a broad sense (software helps you choose). As a UCP or ACP rail on your own checkout funnel, no. You must maintain the Amazon listing there, not a merchant access point.
Are Honey or Klarna agentic agents?
In the directory, they appear because a buyer uses them to pay or save. A coupon and a split payment are not an AP2 mandate nor a UCP (Universal Commerce Protocol) payment funnel. Keep them separate in your mind even if the grid mixes them.
What should a merchant do with this list?
Do not choose one as a religion. Make the catalog readable, decide on the entry point, and prepare delegated payment. First, correct the feed of the platforms where you already are. Postpone exclusive integration.
Why only two official sources?
Because twenty agent product pages do not make a bibliography. UCP and ACP are the two public specifications that name a delegated purchase in 2026. The rest of the directory is read in relation to them, or as a product sheet.
Should we block all browser agents?
No by default, and yes if you do not have a policy. Blocking any headless browser stops Operator and a portion of Claude. Letting everything through opens up price scraping. The decision is an authorization list or a signature, not a button in the agent directory. Name who takes the decision, then test a real product sheet.
